Researchers from the MH-TRN have participated in numerous guidelines and developed treatment manuals for several mental illnesses, particularly serious mental illness. In addition, a large number of self-help books, eHealth applications, and more, make our research available to more individuals. Ingo Schäfer


MH-TRN researcher Ingo Schäfer is coordinator of the German S-3 guideline for PTSD and a new S-3 guideline on opiate substitution treatment with additional impact on S-3 guidelines for alcohol use disorder, prescription drug disorders, and prevention of coercive measures in psychiatric patients.

Rainer Thomasius is lead author of the S-3 guideline for alcohol use disorder in children and adolescents.

The Metacognitive Training (MCT; https://clinical-neuropsychology.de/ metacognitive_training/) developed by Steffen Moritz has entered national treatment guidelines as recommended add-on intervention to address cognitive biases; see the S-3 guideline for schizophrenia. Martin Lambert & Tania Lincoln were involved in the national treatment guidelines for schizophrenia/ psychosis; whereby Tania Lincoln was involved as an expert for psychotherapy in this group of patients, based on her research expertise and previously published treatment manuals on cognitive behavioural therapy for schizophrenia

Silke Wiegand-Grefe


Silke Wiegand-Grefe developed manuals for interventions with children of mentally ill parents, and many more, concerning involvement of families in treatment for severe mental and/ or physical illness.

was leading in revising the new DSM-5 section on somatoform symptom disorders (SSDs), as well as in establishing valid assessment and effective treatment of SSDs.
