This research consortium is dedicated to the following aims:
This consortium of the MH-TRN has a long and successful history of developing, testing, evaluating, and ultimately establishing novel healthcare models in the healthcare system. With the supporting, large infrastructures of the Hamburg Centre of Health Economics (HCHE) and Centre of Health Care Research (CHCR), including its several hundreds of researchers and stakeholders from various disciplines (e.g. psychology, statistics, economy, psychiatry, general medicine, and networks of primary care, health insurances, and public institutions), our task-force assures highest standards and impact of novel care models – especially for individuals with serious and complex, as well as under-served (i.e. often sub-optimally treated in standard care) mental illness.
M. Lambert, M. Härter, B. Löwe, A. Karow, J. Gallinat, and H.-H. König and other colleagues from the University Medical Centre Hamburg-Eppendorf and University of Hamburg developed and evaluated (clinical effectiveness, economic efficiency) care models for a range of mental illnesses; including somatoform, somatic symptom and related disorders, eating disorders, major depression, alcohol use disorder in adolescence, early psychosis, and more.
Some of the group’s achievements are M. Härter being coordinator of the National Clinical S3 Practice Guideline “Unipolar Depression”, the establishment of integrated, stepped care models for comorbid mental illness in primary care (scientific rationale; COMET, which is part of the Hamburg Network of Health Services Research – HAMNET), or the evidence-based stepped and coordinated care service model for mental disorders (scientific rationale; RECOVER). The group is applying an integrated approach, also concerning additional factors often relevant in healthcare for (serious) mental illness, such as consideration and integration of sexual health aspects (cooperation with MH-TRN researcher P. Briken).
These models establish a cross-sectoral, interdisciplinary network of service providers (psychiatry, child and and adolescent psychiatry, psychosomatics, psychology, general medicine, forensic and prison psychiatry, social care), integrate evidence-based approaches (e.g. Crisis Resolution Team (CRT), ACT, Supported Employment (SE), psychotherapy, physical healthcare, peer support), and cross-sectoral, stepped, and managed care.
Our general aim hereby is to facilitate communication within the healthcare system, create transparency for users, and provide a holistic approach to (mental) health. Our network also includes work rehabilitation (research) and other partners from social work. For further detail on the impact of our care models, klick here.
RECOVER. This evidence-based, stepped and coordinated care service model lead by M. Lambert for mental disorders, especially for individuals with serious mental illness, is a nationally leading model to improve healthcare. For details, see descriptions and links above in the main text.
Hamburg Network for Health Care Research. With more than 40 local institutions from primary care, public organizations, practitioners, research, health insurances, patient- and carer-associations, and policy, HAM-NET, lead by M. Härter, has model character for assuring optimized care across different somatic and mental health problems in Germany.

Psychenet – Network for Mental Health. With more than 100 local participating institutions in Hamburg, as well national partners such as the German Association for Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics (DGPPN), we created a dense care network for individuals with different (mental) health problems.
